Kazakhstan is positioning itself as a pioneer in the digital asset space with plans to establish a state-backed cryptocurrency reserve by 2026. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has outlined a vision to integrate cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets into the nation's financial infrastructure, marking a significant step toward institutional adoption.

The proposed State Digital Asset Fund, under the National Bank's investment arm, will hold a reserve of top cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets. This initiative is part of broader fintech reforms, including a forthcoming digital asset law to provide regulatory clarity for tokenized platforms and startups.

Kazakhstan's digital tenge, piloted in 2023 and integrated into public budgets by 2025, is already being used for government projects. The country is also developing CryptoCity in Alatau, a futuristic hub designed for seamless crypto transactions in everyday life.
